Prof. Dr. Thomas Drescher

Musicologist and specialist in organology. Author of numerous scholarly articles on organological topics, music-iconographic studies, social-historical aspects of Early Music history, historical performance practice. Co-editor of Basler Jahrbuch für Historische Musikpraxis. Major research projects include: Groß Geigen, Vyolen, Rybeben – Nordalpine Streichinstrumente um 1500 und ihre Praxis (2013–2015;) Transformationen instrumentaler Klanglichkeit: Die Entwicklung der Streichinstrumente im Übergang vom Spätmittelalter zur frühen Neuzeit am Beispiel der frühen italienischen Viola da gamba (2011–2013); La Grande Écurie – Exploration and reconstruction of the instruments and their repertoire at the court of Louis XIV and XV. (2007-2010). As leader of the research project “Fagottini and tenoroons”, Thomas Drescher is providing expertise in defining systematic research methods, supervising the evaluation of data concerning instrument, and publishing.

Prof. Dr. Donna Agrell

Performer, teacher and researcher. Historical bassoon, Harmoniemusik und research department, Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (FHNW), Royal Conservatoire, The Hague, The Netherlands. Research line: Historical performance practice, wind ensembles. Author of several scholarly publications such as: “Early nineteenth-century Swedish bassoon repertoire: Approaching virtuosic works composed for Frans Preumayr with a Grenser & Wiesner bassoon” (Leiden University, 2015). Assisting in management, her primary tasks center on organological research and data collection, musicological and pedagogical research.

Dr. Áurea Domínguez

Performer, teacher and researcher. Research department, Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (FHNW). Research line: Historical performance practice, historical musicology. Author of several scholarly publications such as: Bassoon Playing in Perspective, (Helsinki, 2013), and co-author of Escribir sobre música (Barcelona, 2016). She is mainly responsible for historical and musicological research, leading repertoire research and pedagogical implementation, and assisting in organological examinations.

Giovanni Battista Graziadio

Performer, teacher and researcher. Research department, Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (FHNW) and doctoral student at the University of Basel. Research line: Historical performance practice, organology, Neapolitan woodwind pedagogy. MMus.(SCB, 2014), MMus.Ped: “Uso e didattica del fagotto a Napoli tra XVII e XVIII secolo” (SCB,2016). He is carrying out musicological and organological research, and is centrally involved in the instrument data evaluation, as well as publishing.

Zoë Matthews

Performer, teacher and researcher. Research department, Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (FHNW). Research line: Historical bassoon performance practice, repertoire, pedagogy. MMus., “The influence of the Baroque bassoon and its modern revival upon modern bassoon teaching and performance practice” (Royal Northern College of Music, 2007); MMus.(SCB, 2010), Mus.Ped.: “A progressive method for Baroque bassoon – on playing bass-lines“ (SCB, 2016). Her main focus is on repertoire evaluation and research, co-creating a classification system for repertoire, instrument trials, reed constructions, and pedagogical methods.

Letizia Viola

Performer, teacher and researcher. Research department, Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (FHNW). Research line: Historical bassoon performance practice, repertoire, pedagogy. Soloist diploma (2002), Mus.Ped: “‘Il fagottista e compositore Luigi Tartagnini (1782–1849): E l’edizione moderna del suo “Adagio con varizaioni, in Fa, per Fagotto, con Orchestra’” (SCB, 2016) and MMus. (SCB, 2018). Her primary tasks involve repertoire evaluation and research, co-creating a classification system for repertoire, developing a pedagogical concept for children, and instrument trials.
